Yes folks that’s right, the new Count & Sinden album is now available to download from iTunes and buy from any good shop, and what an album it is. We got it earlier this week and have had it in our CD player ever since it came through the door.

If you’re thinking that dance music has taken a turn for the worse the last few years then this is the album for you, it’s an exciting, vibrant and versatile debut album from the Essex producers / DJs Joshua Harvey (The Count AKA Hervé) and Graeme Sinden (Sinden). Mega Mega Mega brings the golden era of classics such as Basement Jaxx and The Chemical Brothers fully loaded with its gung-ho anything goes, uncompromisingly energetic party vibe.

Joshua and Graeme where introduced by a mutual friend and soon found they both had a strong love for a wide range of styles of music and wanted to blend them in their records rather than churning out the kind of “tedious deep house” they thought was restricting the ambition many of their contemporaries. This methodology certainly shines through on Mega Mega Mega, with its long list of cast of eclectic collaborators who ensure that each and every track spins off in a new and interesting direction.

The notable tracks for us in the AKG Promotions office are certainly:
2. After Dark (Our summer soundtrack)
4. Hardcore Girls
6. Elephant1234
7. Hold Me (Ft Katy B)
9. Addicted To You – (Because it’s grimetastic)
10. Panther

We give this album a 9/10 (it loses 1 point because we thought it was way too long in the making)

Keep up the work guys!

Now what has modern music been missing for a long time? A collaboration of talented dubstep musicians getting together and forming a “Supergroup”. Well the wait is over because we now have one, one that has already established themselves to the masses in just a short time; Magnetic Man (consisting of some of Dubsteps top producers Benga, Skream and Artwork).

They’ve been on the scene since 2007/2008 releasing a few tracks on mixtapes, nothing major till now.
You’re probably wondering how they do a live show with three very talented DJ’s all spinning decent tunes. Well think three laptops, one playing drum samples and loops, one playing basslines and the third playing lead sounds and samples. Artwork controls the master laptop, using Ableton Live, to which the other two are synchronised via midi. A live set will usually consist of a mix of original tracks produced together with some awesome live remixes of tracks from Benga and Skream.

Their album is due out on the 4th of October this year and man are we looking forward to it, if the other tracks on the album are anything like their amazing ‘I Need Air’ and what with Katy B now joining the crew we are in most certainly in for a treat!

Under doctors’ orders, Deadmau5 has had to cancel his next nine shows, including dates at Japan’s Summer Sonic festival.

Below are the dates which have had to be cancelled, however it is thought they will be rescheduled, so you won’t be missing out.

Montreal Osheaga Music & Arts Festival (August 1)

This recent track, first aired on Radio 1 and the Skream + Benga Radio Show. The tunes was originally a heavy dubstep tune created by the great Benga himself titled “Man on a Mission.” The original needed some juice and thus “Katy on a Mission” was born. Vocals always make things a little more interesting and add a new depth to any track, and the amazing vocals of Katy B make all the difference. This track kicks it hard and we in the AKG Promotions office think it going to be a big tune for this summer. It great to see a collaboration between genres, this has clearly brought R&B and dubstep to a whole new level, creating a union that is here to stay.

The morning after the night before, The AKG Promotions team were certainly bleary eyed after waking up at the Eden Project camp site at 7 o’clock in the morning and why you may ask were they awake so early? Well this is the one day we had been waiting for for literally months…..Audio Bullys, Annie Mac and Calvin Harris all at one venue….YES PLEASE!

Audio Bullys
I remember when the Audio Bullys released ‘Shot You Down’ from their second album Generation back in 2005, I’d always wondered what had happened to these London geezers, and now I know. Opening the set with ‘Drums (On with the Story)’ a melodic, relaxing song that soon turned into an electro lovers (Karl’s) dream…and on with the show! The next 40 or so minutes were amazing….I enjoyed the set so much as I soon as I got home I bought their newest album ‘Higher Than The Eiffel’.

Annie Mac
I’m not going to lie I was very excited about seeing Annie Mac, but the excitement on AKG Promotions sound recordest Taylor’s face all day was literally indescribable. The set kicked off with some nice summer electro beats from artists such as Yolanda Be Cool and then quickly turned to something truly magical. Annie dropped remixes by Jack Beats, A-Trak and Fake Blood….it just got dirtier and dirtier…..it was just a shame her set only lasted for an hour. I certainly could’ve enjoyed her mixing skills all night!

Calvin Harris
Last, but by no means least the crowd were treated to Calvin Harris. With a full band support Calvin was top form and had the crowd jumping and singing like I’ve never seen before. There had been talk of Dizzee Rascal making an appearance at the gig, alas he didn’t turn up. Calvin hit us with some of his biggest hits, Acceptable in the 80s, Ready for the Weekend, The Girls….it was an awesome set and a shame it had to end.

Being a part of the AKG Promotions team means certain VIP privileges. So after the gig had finished we headed up to the Gallery at The Eden Project to the VIP after party. It was a great chance to carry the electric vibe to carry on into the night and best of all, artists of the event came to party with us. We managed to get to meet Annie Mac and discuss who was her biggest fan, Radio Ones Nick Grimshaw or AKG Promotions Taylor Worthington…..we certainly know who the winner was, don’t we Taylor?!

The party didn’t finish for us after that, next we headed back up to the camp site and sat round a fire with a few beers with the Sessions organisers and talked about future events….and all we can say is the future is looking exciting and bright. Watch this space!

The AKG Promotions team (Karl, Ralph and Taylor) headed to The Eden Project to work alongside the Eden team to help coordinate the media with the artists playing in the Med Biome on the Cape Farewell / Eden Project collaboration Biotik Stage for what can only be described as a fantastic couple of days.

The weather was simply perfect and the sound of the west London nouveau-folkies Mumford & Sons carried throughout the crater in which the Eden Session stage was located. Having just finished playing at Glastonbury still looking fresh faced Mumford and Sons hit us with an energetic barrage of folk rock.
The band played one of the longest Session support sets to what was the biggest crowd seen at one of the early slots
The set was filled with crowd pleasing tunes which consisted mostly songs from their debut album ‘Sign No More’ as well as a few new tunes thrown into the mix (it certainly had Karl excited about the songs to be on the next album).

With the temperature certainly dropping, the Doves took the stage to a elated response from a crowd still going made for Mumford & Sons. The mood without doubt become more sombre, the Manchester three-piece group took the crowd on a musical journey through Doves time, including There Goes the Fear and Caught by the River.

The evening was amazing, a great night of good music and an even better atmosphere. If you were there we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and if you weren’t, well you certainly missed out.

Once again this year sees Falmouth holding its annual Sea Shanty Festival. You may be asking yourself what a Sea Shanty Festival is?

The Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival was founded and is organised by Falmouth Shout. The continuing work by members of Falmouth Shout, with the support of the RNLI has ensured that it has become a successful and popular annual event. The Festival has three main aims:

1. To create an enjoyable event for all invloved
2. To raise money for the RNLI
3. To preserve and promote the maritime heritage of Falmouth and Cornwall

the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival is always a crowd puller and features traditional music, singing and performances along various waterfront venues. This year sea shanty bands are coming from across the seven seas to come sing in good old Falmouth.
A weekend full of old men (and women!) rattling out old and slightly less old tunes, as well as…..

With performers coming from all over the UK and some even coming from as far as France and Germany it’s sure to be a successful event. If you’re new to Cornwall or haven’t ever ventured to a past Sea Shanty Festival we highly recommend you give it ago.
You’re sure to find musical performances all over town starting from Events Square (outside the Maritime museum). It’s a great laugh and a great chance to drink a fine bit of Cornish Grog (Ale to the rest of us).

WHEN:
Friday 18th June 2010 @ 18:00 – Late
Saturday 19th June 2010 All Day
Sunday 20th June 2010 All Day

AKG Promotions front man Karl Shaddick will be helping as technical support on the stages for the weekend. We look forward to seeing you there!

PS: The weather for the festival looks pretty good, a tad cooler than expected but you know how to wrap up….we are in Cornwall after all:

Yesterday saw the finale event of the 2010 academic year at University College Falmouth and University of Exeter Cornwall Campus on the Tremough Campus.
As tradition ex-presidents of the students union are invited back to the event. So AKG Promotions front man Karl Shaddick attended the event to see the progress of the SU in the past year and enjoy a bit of music.

The event started with a Garden Party with the usual amenities Pimms, Strawberries and Cream etc. At 10:30pm fireworks were set off from the car park…this marked the end of the Garden Party and the end of a grand year. It also begun a night of what I can only describe as a strangely awesome night!

Frankmusik:
The supporting musical act for the evening. Honestly I was not expecting anything great, having listened to his “electropop” music I had not been overly impressed (not really my cup of tea), however I could not have been any more gob smacked when he started his set. Bass heavy, electro, fidget and wobbly house from artists such as Jack Beats and A-trak were just some of the music played.
After Frankmusik (AKA Vincent Turner) finished on stage the current SU President (Taylor Worthington) (with myself accompanying) drove Vincent back to his hotel room in Falmouth. Whilst on the journey I was able to tell him about how much I had enjoyed his set and how totally unexpected it was. Vincent went on to tell me about how it was that style of music that he loved and most people don’t expect it, they either love it, or hate it. He made the assumption that as I had a love for wobbly house and electro meant that I was a producer. I proved him very wrong.
His lasting words to me were to start producing music and get out there on a bigger scale! What an awesome bloke!

Nick Grimshaw:
The headlining act for the night, and the only way to describe him was ‘distinctly average’, he might be a big name for BBC Radio One and Channel 4, but his DJing skills were certainly substandard. Sure he could select a tune that would get the crowd jumping, but he couldn’t beat match for toffee!
After he had finished his set he headed outside and signed a few autographs and had a few photos taken with students that had bothered to run round the side of the building when the event had finished.

All in all the night was good fun, the music was pretty good and the atmosphere was amazing. Having spoke to people and reading on Facebook the feelings about the evening were very mixed. There was a clear split between people either liking Frankmusik or Nick Grimeshaw, not both.
Well done to the FXU for a great send of for the students.
