Once again this year sees Falmouth holding its annual Sea Shanty Festival. You may be asking yourself what a Sea Shanty Festival is?
The Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival was founded and is organised by Falmouth Shout. The continuing work by members of Falmouth Shout, with the support of the RNLI has ensured that it has become a successful and popular annual event. The Festival has three main aims:
1. To create an enjoyable event for all invloved
2. To raise money for the RNLI
3. To preserve and promote the maritime heritage of Falmouth and Cornwall
the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival is always a crowd puller and features traditional music, singing and performances along various waterfront venues. This year sea shanty bands are coming from across the seven seas to come sing in good old Falmouth.
A weekend full of old men (and women!) rattling out old and slightly less old tunes, as well as…..
With performers coming from all over the UK and some even coming from as far as France and Germany it’s sure to be a successful event. If you’re new to Cornwall or haven’t ever ventured to a past Sea Shanty Festival we highly recommend you give it ago.
You’re sure to find musical performances all over town starting from Events Square (outside the Maritime museum). It’s a great laugh and a great chance to drink a fine bit of Cornish Grog (Ale to the rest of us).
